The Character
Country Name: Mexico (Estados Unidos Mexicanos).
Human Name: Ana María Campos Hernández.
Gender: Female.
Appearance:
Personality: Mexico is characterized by her emotional depth. She has such vast reservoir of optimism that she doesn't come to realize her influence on others. She possesses the ability to express true human emotions (anger, love, happiness, sadness) which can often make her vulnerable to getting hurt. Passion runs through, which causes her to fall very easily and quickly in love, often making the same mistakes. Her kind and gentle side sprouts from this very passion.
She is susceptible to develop habits and then act upon them. However, they can take a heavy toll and get out of control. This happens as a result of taking things to the extremes and not finding a balance. Deception, she uses it thinking that it is for everyone's good; as well as charming her way out of any situation (especially paying back her debts).
She is a two-faced nation, the north and south are very different. Although Ana María tends to be open about her feelings, she has yet to show her true colors. Merely, she hates/dislikes people quietly. Her tenacity borders the limit of stubbornness and there is no force that will change her mind.
She says what she's thinking (especially when she's drunk) and in that honesty, she fails to realize that she can often be mean or just plain cruel. Mexico has a nasty temper. She can be very patient and tolerant, but when pushed over the edge she is a force to be reckoned with and there is no hesitation in using violence.
This free-spirited, easy-going nation will stand almost anything that's thrown at her. Her trademark wide grin makes her take things lightly and she can't help but make funny remarks to save her life. Talking is in her nature.
Parties, parties, parties! Mexico always has a reason to celebrate life (and death!). She enjoys being around people and her hospitality is admirable. However, she's lazy, but hard-working when she wants to.
Ana María will go out of her way to help someone she cares for. Once considered a friend, her loyalty is unbreakable. Note that she is not the best to deal with betrayal. She doesn't fight others, mainly because she doesn't have the time while she’s fixing her inner problems.
Despite her struggles, Mexico is a very hopeful, dreamy country full of rich history and traditions. She can see Alebrijes (Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastic creatures) and tends to believe in her legends, sharing a special relationship with death.
One day, she hopes to find stability and become a powerful nation.

Strengths:

-Cooking. Her cuisine is considered among the top five world-wide.
-Loyalty. She is loyal to the end. When she loves someone/cares for them, there is hardly anything she won't do for them. Even at the expense of her well-being.
-Hard-worker. When she sets her mind to it, she can accomplish many things and get the work done in time.
-Partying! The party doesn't start until Mexico walks in. (Bringing the Tequila, of course.)
-Optimism. Despite her bloody history and internal struggles, she still seems to find the bright side of things. Despite the situation, she'll find reasons to celebrate what a great nation she is.
-Charismatic. She has this way of making people like her, even so that she can charm her way out of trouble.
Weaknesses:
-Stubborn. Even though she may be head over heels in trouble, there is nothing that will make her change her mind. The only reason she will accept help is if it is forced on her.
-Lazy. She may hard-working, but if she doesn't feel like it, she simply won't do anything.
-Short-tempered. When someone makes her angry or when she's having a really bad day, she can lose it at the slightest fuse. You do not want to deal with an angry Mexico, for she will find every single way to make your life miserable.
-Hypocritical. She may never say it, she'll just smile and curse you under her breath. She also seems to be someone publicly, but someone else privately. She's very careful as to who show her true colors.
-Open. She is very open to people, which makes her naïve and even vulnerable for others to hurt her.
-Direct. Mexico, more often than not, lacks a filter. In her attempt to formulate her opinion, she often just says what's on her mind, without realizing the impact of her words. She hurts people easily.
Sample Post:
The wind blew softly, carrying the sound of faint voices within. Mexico sat at the edge of the sand, her feet caressed by the warm waters of the Pacific. She was at the far end of the country, so south there was no one to bother her. She needed time to think. No, she did not wish to think. She could not afford to go underneath her mind and uncover the feelings she didn't want to face.
With piles of severed heads and corpses handing from overpasses, it had been hard to imagine a more gruesome attack could be possible. Layouts of innocent people had hoped the cruelty of the situation would end in a number of casualties that didn't become personal until it was someone you knew.
But, how could I explain to you that it had happened? It seemed silly now to worry about things like a failed test, a broken condom, or finding a decent job when true evils like this existed. Countless people trapped within hazardous walls, smoke intruding their lungs, fire burning their bodies, eyes witnessing a sight no one should be forced to… emergency exits locked. Only in Mexico.
Ana María shed a tear. She didn't want to be acknowledged as a nation, a nation in mourning. The burning casino had illustrated the lengths the drug cartels will reach to try to outbid each other. And the victims who pay the consequences… Who's last sight was true hell, who screamed in agony until their voices silently begged for death.
Mexico's tears turned into sobs. She had felt this pain before, knives encrusted in her heart. Once, in 1968. Her body was a battlefield of scars that could not heal before something else torn them open. She could not imagine living in a world were something like this could happen.
She did not want to feel anything. The other nations had shared their condolences, especially America, who claimed his responsibility. She chuckled bitterly. He should be ashamed. He should take responsibility. If he could control his drug usage, none of this would've happened. If only he knew just how miserable his mere presence brought them all… Ana María had to stop herself right there. It wasn't his fault, per se, but she was so hurt she wished she could dump all this on him.
She stood up and took a deep breath. The only one she wanted to talk to was Colombia. He knew how it felt to be controlled by forces you could not overpower no mater how hard you threw a punch. He knew how it felt to live in a war and not know which side will protect you.
Her happy-go-lucky aura had vanished into bitterness and a deep desire for vengeance. She was fighting back, and this time the end justified the means.
