The Character
Country Name: Republic of China (Taiwan)
Human Name: Xiao Mei (Mei Xiao in western format)
Gender: Female
Appearance:
With dark, chocolate eyes and long, silky brown hair, Taiwan is a very beautiful young girl. Her long hair is slightly wavy and falls just above her hips. One noticeable feature particular is the wild, curly stand of hair that sticks out on the right side of her head. Taiwan also has a small, flower shape birth-mark on her left thigh. The Asian girl wears pink flowers in her hair as well as a pale pink or peach qipao with long sleeves, a gold trim and a long white skirt. She appears to be about 18 years old and stands at about 150 cm (4'11"), weighing roughly 103 lbs. Mei appears to be quite delicate; due to her petite frame and the fact she is rather short. Taiwan takes pride in her appearance, and is always dressed and done up in the latest fashion with her hair immaculate and some simple make-up perfectly applied.
Personality: Taiwan is a strong-willed nation with a bubbly personality. For the most part, Mei keeps a cheerful disposition. To her friends and family, she is incredibly loyal and dependable. Sometimes it seems she cares for those close to her so much that she will always do her best for them... well, with a few exceptions of course.
She was brought up to know her place and has good manners. When it comes to those she likes or people she just met, to make a good first impression, she is extremely polite. Also, she is patient with things and others for a while... up until a point. However, she is rather smart-mouthed and, when she does speak her mind, is incredibly blunt in what she says. Taiwan tends to lash out sometimes at people who she may find frustrating or hard to get along with, and it appears she has no respect for particular nations. If she does not respect you, she will be very rebellious and often back-chat or ignore you. She does not act like this out of spite for she is generally not a spiteful person. Taiwan just isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
For the majority of the time, nonetheless, Taiwan is incredibly cheerful. She acts slightly immature; often being in a dream-like state or acts quite naive about the world around her. She is rather carefree, preferring to look on the bright side of life if she can. One thing she loves is making other people smile, and is constantly trying to have fun with others... even if they aren’t always willing to go along with her plans. In that respect she can be narrow minded, either being oblivious to or deliberately ignoring the fact some people might not want to do what she wants to. People may say that she is childish and selfish because of this, but really it’s more of a fact she is oblivious or naive. She just does her best to maintain a smile; sometimes she tries too hard even and she might come across as a bit of an air-head.
Recently, though, Taiwan has begun to feel the pressures and stress of being a nation. She has become more nervous in recent times and often worries about even the smallest thing. This constant anxiety also means she can be quite tired a lot of the time, and occasionally this results in her being grouchy with fellow nations, especially China.
Weapon: Two steel folding fans with black surfaces. One has pink plum blossoms and the other has white Taiwanese characters painted on. Mei also knows Kung Fu.
